This is a set of rules for a simulation game of the Battle of Hampton Roads (1862) from the American Civil War. It was the first naval battle between two ironclad warships. The simulation was designed to run in 20 minutes with a group of 6 - 8 eighth grade students. The simulation was played with 5 groups of students resulting in one Union victory, one Confederate victory, and three draws. The

Up until that point, all naval battles had been waged between wooden ships.
